Guide to transferring PS4 games and data to PS5
Yes, it’s here, and it comes with the coveted backwards compatibility seldom seen on games consoles. The PS5 will allow you to keep playing your favourite PS4 games without having to dust it off and plug it back in.
What we’re going to cover for you now, is the ability to pick up your saved game exactly where you left it on your old console. The only downside, not every game you loved on PS4 will be transferable and playable on the PS5.
In this run down we’ll show you how to move your game saves over via Ethernet cable and wifi, via PS Plus and via USB.
When you set up your PS5 (requires Ethernet cable)
It’s possible to get all the transferring done when you’re starting up your PS5 for the first time, just make sure both your PS4 and PS5 are on the same wifi network and connected together via ethernet cable, your PS4 will also need the latest update to avoid any problems.
During set up your PS5 will give you the option on screen to transfer data, when it does, follow the instructions and get through the various prompts on screen, then your PS4 will transfer its data as a background download letting you get on with the important stuff.
If you’re a PS plus member
Your data will be uploaded to the cloud periodically, just check on your PS4 that your latest saved games have been uploaded before you start this process on your new PS5, do this by going to the PS4 Settings – Application Data Management – Saved Data in System Storage – Upload to Online Storage. Choose the save files you want on your PS5 and press x on ‘yes’.
Once that’s done head over to your PS5 settings – Saved Data and Game/App Settings – Saved Data (PS4) – Download to console storage. This will show you a list of your saved PS4 games for you to select from. You can tick individual files or go right to get to the ‘select all’ button.
Move PS4 data to PS5 Via USB
If you don’t have an Ethernet cable or a PS Plus membership, move over any saved games you want on your PS5 via USB. Plug a USB into the front of your PS4 ensuring it has enough storage for the data you want to move.
Then go into your PS4 Settings – Application Saved Data Management – Saved Data in System Storage – Copy to USB Storage Device – pick any saved files you want then continue to start downloading files to the USB.
Once you’ve downloaded all your files to the USB. Unplug the stick and insert it into your new PS5. Once it’s recognised by your PS5 go to Settings – Saved Data and Game/App Settings, then select Saved Data (PS4) – USB Drive. This will allow you to select any and all saved data onto your new PS5.
Any issues with your PS4 or PS5?
